Muizz Administration

Br. Awang Abdul Muizz bin Awang Marusin (President Muizz) was appointed as the President of IIUM as-Siddiq College at the night of 2 February 2015 and served the office continuously until the end of the third (and the last) Muizz Administration, on 1 February 2017. Prior to his presidency, he was the Spokesperson of IIUM Arabic Debating and Public Speaking Club (ADC) from February to December 2014.

Throughout his presidency, he served a number of offices and organisations within IIUM, including a paid one. From September 2015 to March 2016, and between November and December 2016, he worked as a research assistant at Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.

On 13 February 2016, he was elected as the second (and the first sitting) Deputy Speaker of IIUM Student Leaders’ Assembly (ISLA). He served ISLA with Br. Ahmad Hafizuddin bin Manjur Ahmad, the second (and the first sitting) Speaker until the end of the year. Prior to such election, Mahallah Representative Coordination Committee made him its Deputy Chair from December 2015 to October 2016.

President Muizz joined IIUM on 3 June 2012 for 18-month Foundation in Arabic Language and Literature programme in Petaling Jaya, and moved to Gombak on 28 January 2014 for Bachelor of Education (Teaching Arabic as a Second Language) programme. He was, previously, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

His service to IIUM started on 3 July 2012, the day he was appointed by the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) as the Vice Secretary of Mahallah Abu Bakar Representative Committee. 3 days prior to the end of term, exactly on 30 April 2013, he was appointed as the President of CFS Arabic Debate Club. He served the office until the end of his foundation studies, six months later.

His service has not been limited to IIUM only. During gap months, he was hired as a Service Associate for Laundry at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort in Tuaran. During the short semester of Academic Year 2015/2016, he was sent to Sekolah Menengah Sains Sabah in Tuaran, Sabah for one-month assignment.

1 February 2017 marked the end of his presidency (following his intra-term resignation) and, hence, the end of the third (and the last) Muizz Administration in Mahallah as-Siddiq, IIUM Gombak Campus. Br. Bukhari bin Isahak and Bukhari Administration succeeded President Muizz and Muizz Administration respectively on the following day.

Upon leaving the presidency, he has a record of four terms (and 1,035 days) of service as a member of two different Mahallat Representative Committees (MRC) in two different Campuses of the University, making him one of longest-serving members (and Presidents) of MRC in IIUM.

During his presidency, he received three formal recognition for his commitment and service to the College and the University in various fields, mainly Arabic debate and oratory, diplomacy and foreign relations, and Islamic development. In May 2016, the University made him the winner of the Principal’s Award and the first person to be the best Male MRC Leader in 2015. He received As-Siddiq Gold Medal, five months before that, exactly in December 2015.
